Fushimi Inari without the crowds: start from the back trail at 6:30am

Instead of the main gate, take a taxi to Kyoto Trail marker 4 (Higashiyama) and walk the quiet forest path up to Tenryu Okami shrine: about 1km, mostly flat. You reach near the summit by 7am, shoot empty torii, then stroll downhill past the shrines against the crowds.
